Why hire a health coach

We live in an age of instant information at your fingertips.

For the first time in history, we have the ability to view a near infinite amount of data and information related to any subject, especially health. The only problem is that the sheer amount of info at your fingertips is so broad and complicated that how do you filter out what is useless or snake oil?

Unfortunately, for many individuals with chronic energy, digestive or health conditions, the standard approaches to treating you are limited or unhelpful. In a lot of conditions, taking a pharmaceutical pill or cream is not able to treat the underlying causes for your symptoms; only the symptoms.

This is where a health coach comes in.

Let’s be honest, nearly all health coaches come from alternative backgrounds of health care. Instead of the “one department or specialist per body part” approach, we have spent our lives researching and understanding the body and mind as a whole. We recognise that your poor sleep could be caused by your work or family life stress. It could also be as a result of hormonal changes. And perhaps poor sleep could be down to the fact your last meal occurs too close to your bed time.

We take the time to invest in you, to really buy into you as an individual and then to assess and address all the possible variables that could be contributing to your symptoms. Instead of the conventional approach of just prescribing a sleeping tablet, we look to help you resolve these symptoms but more than that, we help you improve in all areas of health and wellbeing.

But back to the issue of information overload. The crazy amount of information and opinions at your disposal relating to your symptoms can be overwhelming. One website may suggest fasting as the best way to resolve your energy issues, another may suggest meditation or the keto diet. It can result in paralysis by analysis.

Hiring a health coach allows you to lean on and learn from the experience and expertise of someone whose passion in life is understanding the nuances and tiny perturbations of your body and mind, life and wellbeing that could have led you to where you are today.

I'm an all or nothing kind of individual. I know my limitations and when I don’t know something I reach out for help.

When I needed my kitchen refitting, I could have gone onto YouTube and watched a dozen videos about hanging kitchen cupboards, laying new flooring and sanding down a new worktop.

But I didn’t.

I understood that to achieve the end result that my wife and I wanted, we had to hire a specialist to do this.

The same goes for my car. Whenever I have an issue, I call on the help of a mechanic. Nearly everyone follows this thought process because they understand that cars are incredibly complex machines. More so now than ever due to the electrical components to cars these days.

The same logic should be applied to your health.

Your symptoms probably didn’t just appear over night and like the car on your drive, will require a complex list of diagnostic tests and huge number of variables to consider that all could have contributed to any symptoms.

The big difference between you and your car is that you can forget about your cars wellbeing if you'd like to; you cannot avoid that of your own that goes with you 24/7.

Your health goals may be focused on improving energy, restful sleep or searching for improved vitality for life? Or perhaps your initial goals are to be free of pain or exhaustion, to shift that sluggishness and extra weight that won’t budge. Hiring an in person or online health coach could be the start of a complete transformation in your life.

Hiring a coach could and very likely will be the greatest investment in your life.
